Celebrating 40 with surfing, self-discovery, and the courage to live authentically

It's my birthday! As I step deeper into what many call "midlife", I find myself naturally drawn to reflection rather than traditional celebrations. Instead of shopping, pedicures, or big parties, today you'll find me in the ocean surfing, meeting with a psychic medium for the first time, and enjoying a simple BBQ with family and friends—and it will be simply delightful!
Over this past week, I've been reflecting on the life lessons from my 40th year, and here's what I've discovered. These are some profound insights that have shaped my journey toward authentic living, and I plan to dive deeper into many of these topics in future posts.
1. Having a Vision Anchors You to Deeper Purpose
One of my biggest personal growth revelations this year has been understanding the true power of vision. I've gone from being haphazard with my life, health, and business visions to referring to them with much greater consistency.
For years, mentors talked about the importance of having a life vision to inform your path. I would go through the motions, but within days or weeks, the vision would drift from my mind. This year, something shifted fundamentally. I'm understanding on a deeper level how a clear vision serves as an anchor in various areas of life.
With this gained clarity and commitment to achieving what I want, I'm excited to see what unfolds over my next journey around the sun!
2. Getting Distracted by Shiny Objects Happens—But Boundaries Help
In early 2023, I started a side business creating user-generated content (UGC) for brands. It was fun, easy, and highly lucrative without much effort. When something reaps quick financial gain so easily, it naturally gets your attention.
I'm deeply grateful for everything being a UGC creator has given me. However, over the course of this year, I realized that UGC creation doesn't align with my deeper goals and sometimes conflicts with my values.
I continue UGC work, but setting clear boundaries around the type of projects I accept has brought me back to my heart's work: holistic health. This taught me that financial success doesn't always equal personal fulfillment.
3. The Power of Nature for Nervous System Regulation
This year, I unapologetically put running to the side and embraced mindful walking! Unplugged walks (no phone) have become essential for my nervous system regulation, and my body literally craves them.
It's during these nature walks that I truly clear my mind or receive the best ideas and insights. I've started carrying a small pencil and notecard so when an unforgettable idea comes up, I can capture it without fear of losing it.
This time enjoying nature therapy and my own presence is priceless. I always return home feeling uplifted, energized, inspired, or deeply relaxed. Spending time in nature has become a non-negotiable part of my wellness routine.
4. I'm Unapologetically Multi-Passionate
I've finally accepted that I will never anchor down and do the same thing forever—and that's the truest expression of myself. My business evolution, like my life, is always shifting and changing, and it's through that evolution that I show up as my best self and live authentically.
Being multi-passionate isn't a flaw to fix; it's a strength to embrace. For anyone struggling with having multiple interests, know that your diverse passions can be your superpower.
5. Island Fever Is Real
I've caught a heavy case of island fever! After living on Oahu for over 17 years, I'm experiencing this intense internal drive to expand and explore beyond our island boundaries.
Island fever is best described as an overwhelming desire for long drives, varied terrain, meeting new people, experiencing different cultures, and exploring more of this beautiful planet. Sometimes life transitions require us to acknowledge when we've outgrown our current environment.
6. Every Woman Should Consider Cycle Syncing
Cycle syncing has been a game-changer for my women's wellness journey. It's a path toward greater alignment and balance for menstruating women living in our masculine, patriarchal-designed society.
Cycle syncing involves linking your menstrual cycle phases to your diet, exercise, and daily activities. It's about embracing your feminine energy to bring your system into balance, helping you feel better physically, emotionally, and energetically every day.
This hormonal health approach has revolutionized how I understand my body's natural rhythms. I'll be sharing more about my cycle syncing journey soon!
7. I Choose to Live My Truth—No More People Pleasing
This year brought a profound understanding of my people-pleasing tendencies. The fresh perspective this awareness has given me is liberating: I no longer expect or desire everyone to understand and agree with my life choices.
When I seek others' approval, I hold myself back from living authentically and experiencing what my soul came here for. My message to you: follow your heart even when people around you say it makes no sense.
Breaking free from people pleasing has been one of my most challenging yet rewarding personal development achievements.
Celebrating 40 Rotations and Looking Forward
As I celebrate this milestone birthday, I'm filled with gratitude for these life lessons at 40. Each insight has contributed to my journey toward more authentic living and personal fulfillment.
Midlife isn't about slowing down—it's about speeding up in the right direction, toward what truly matters.
Here's to embracing the wisdom that comes with age and the courage to keep evolving!
